Boudoir Photography FAQ

Your boudoir photography questions answered

If you’re thinking about booking a boudoir photography session, it’s completely normal to have questions. Whether you’re wondering what to wear, how the shoot works, or how your privacy is protected, you’ll find the answers here.

I specialise in relaxed, professional boudoir photography for women and couples across Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas. My goal is to create a comfortable, judgement-free experience where you can feel confident and genuinely enjoy the process.

Below are some of the most common questions clients ask before their boudoir shoot.

FAQ

Will I feel comfortable posing for a male photographer?

I completely understand that some women may feel hesitant about working with a male photographer, worrying about hidden agendas. But let me be absolutely clear - the moment I pick up my camera, I am in full professional mode.

I’m not here to ogle or make you feel uncomfortable - I’m here to create incredible images that showcase your confidence, beauty, and energy. My focus is on the lighting, angles, and composition to give you the shots you deserve.

If you ever have concerns, I encourage open communication - your comfort and trust are my top priorities. This should be an empowering and positive experience from start to finish.

How do I book an appointment, and what will we discuss?

Every client has the option for a free 30-minute no-obligation phone consultation. This is your chance to tell me exactly what you’re looking for from your boudoir shoot.

While I can accommodate certain requests, I encourage you to check my website and socials first to get a feel for my style. If any of my images really speak to you, let me know! That way, we can make sure your shoot aligns with both your vision and my creative approach.

How much does a boudoir or couples shoot cost?

Boudoir shoot pricing starts at £269 and varies depending on the package you choose.

How do I book a boudoir shoot?

To secure your boudoir session, a 50% deposit is required at the time of booking. Once we receive the deposit, your date is locked in, and we can start planning your shoot.

Can I Share My Shoot with a Partner or Friend?

Yes - you’re welcome to share the experience with a partner or a friend.

For friends:

The minimum booking is the Signature package. This gives us enough time to photograph you both and ensures there are plenty of images that can be split evenly between you.

For couples:

Couples can book any package. A typical flow is to start with couple shots, then capture a few solo male (dudeoir) images, and finish with solo female images. This creates a great mix of photos for both of you.

Sharing a shoot can be a fun, relaxed way to experience boudoir together while still leaving with individual images that reflect your own style and confidence.

Should I get my hair and makeup done professionally?

That’s totally up to you! I can help arrange a makeup artist if you'd like one. That said, I’ve found that most clients feel more comfortable doing their own makeup since they know what works for them. A makeup artist may not always capture your exact vision, so if you’re confident doing it yourself, that’s often the best option.

As for hair, choose a style that makes you feel amazing - whether that’s sleek, tousled, or effortlessly undone.

When do I need to pay the remaining balance for my boudoir shoot??

The remaining 50% must be paid at least 7 days before your shoot. This ensures everything is confirmed and ready to go, without last-minute payment delays. If the final payment isn’t received on time, your booking may be cancelled.

What if I’m running late to my boudoir shoot?

Life happens, but please try to arrive on time - any time lost will come out of your shoot. I often book sessions back-to-back or around venue availability, so I can’t always extend your slot.

If you’re running late, let me know as soon as possible, and I’ll do my best to make the most of the remaining time. But to get the full experience you’ve booked, arriving on time is key!

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Deposits are non-refundable, but I understand that things happen. If you need to reschedule your boudoir shoot, let me know as soon as possible.

I’ll do my best to move you to another date, but rescheduling is subject to availability.

Please see my contract for the most up to date terms & conditions.

Do you provide outfits for the shoot?

No, I don’t provide a wardrobe, so you’ll need to bring your own outfits. I recommend bringing a variety of options so we have flexibility during the shoot. Choose pieces that make you feel sexy and confident - whether that’s lingerie, bodysuits, sheer robes, or even something unexpected like an oversized shirt or leather jacket.

If you’re feeling a bit self-conscious, a body stocking is a great way to ease into the boudoir session while still looking incredible. Just keep in mind that some outfits take longer to put on, and that will eat into your shoot time - so plan accordingly!

Can I do my hair and makeup at the shoot location?

No, please come fully ready to shoot. On the shoot days, I keep the space private for each client. If you arrive needing extra time for hair and makeup, it will cut into your shoot time. To make the most of your session, please have everything done before you arrive.

Do I need to know how to pose?

Not at all! Most of my clients have never done a professional boudoir shoot before, and that’s exactly why I’m here. I’ll guide you through every step, from subtle movements to full-body poses, so you never have to worry about what to do.

I’m self-conscious about my body. Can you pose me in a flattering way?

Absolutely. I know how to pose and light you to highlight your best features while making you feel comfortable. But more importantly, this shoot isn’t about hiding - it’s about celebrating you. Your body, your curves, your unique energy - all of it deserves to be seen and appreciated. We’ll find the balance between what makes you feel confident and what truly reflects who you are.

What if I feel uncomfortable during the shoot?

Your comfort and trust are my top priorities. If at any point during the shoot you feel uncomfortable - whether it’s with a pose, the setting, or anything else - you can say so, and we’ll adjust immediately. This boudoir experience is about you, and I want you to feel safe, confident, and in control throughout.

I always keep communication open, so if you ever need a break, a change of pace, or just want to ease into things more slowly, that’s completely fine. There’s no pressure to do anything that doesn’t feel right for you.

If you’re nervous about the shoot beforehand, we can chat about any concerns in your consultation so I know what makes you feel most at ease. My goal is to create a space where you feel respected, empowered, and celebrated - nothing less.

When will I receive my images?

You can expect to receive your password-protected gallery within a couple of weeks.

I always aim for a fast turnaround while ensuring each image gets the attention it deserves. If you need your photos sooner, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do!

What editing is included?

All selected images include colour grading, cropping and enhanced portraits retouching, such as:

✔ Skin softening

✔ Spot & blemish removal

✔ Teeth whitening

✔ Stretch mark removal

+ Much more

Everything is kept subtle and natural - I want you to look like you, just at your best.

How will I receive my photos?

Your final boudoir images will be delivered in a beautiful, private, password-protected online gallery. This allows you to view, download, and share your photos securely.

Your privacy is a top priority, so only you will have access to the gallery unless you choose to share it.

Can I order prints or other products?

Yes! In your private online gallery, you’ll have the option to order a variety of high-quality extras, including:

✔ Prints

✔ Canvases

✔ And much more!

For most clients, the standard products available in the gallery are excellent quality and perfect for showcasing your images.

How should I prepare for my boudior shoot?

Once you’ve booked, I’ll send you a detailed prep guide to help you feel fully ready for your boudoir session. It will cover everything from what to bring to how to get in the right mindset for an amazing experience.

For now, the best thing you can do is start thinking about outfits, styling, and the vibe you want to create. And most importantly - don’t stress! I’ll guide you through everything on the day to make sure you look and feel incredible.

Can I drink before or during my shoot?

A little alcohol can help take the edge off, and I totally get that! If a drink helps you relax, that’s fine - but please drink in moderation.

If you arrive intoxicated, I may have to refuse to shoot, as it can affect your ability to pose, take direction, and fully enjoy the experience. My goal is to capture you at your best, and that’s hard to do if you’re not fully present.

What styles of photography do you offer?

I shoot everything from classic boudoir to erotic art, and for clients who want something more explicit, I can accommodate that too. My priority is making sure you feel comfortable and confident, so it’s important to discuss your expectations ahead of time.

I always like to ease into the session by starting with a boudoir-style approach. Unless we have shot together already, jumping straight into explicit or highly erotic poses can feel unnatural and sometimes awkward - for both of us. Taking time to warm up allows you to relax, settle into the shoot, and get the best possible images.

Do you offer boudoir shoots for men?

Yes! I offer male mini shoots also known as Dudeoir.

Please see my Services page for up to date pricing.

✔ A one-hour session

✔ 6 digital images (with the option to purchase more)

✔ A location of your choice—this could be your home, an outdoor setting, a venue you love, or even capturing you doing something you’re passionate about, like sports or socialising.

These shoots can be editorial, fly-on-the-wall, playful, or even erotic - it’s completely up to you. Just be sure to communicate your vision beforehand so we can plan the shoot to match your style and comfort level.

Can I bring a friend or partner with me?

Yes, you’re welcome to have one companion with you during your boudoir shoot - whether it’s a partner, friend, or someone who makes you feel comfortable.

However, they should be supportive but out of the way. While encouragement is always welcome, they cannot step in to direct or suggest poses - that’s my job! The best way for them to help is by letting you stay focused and confident while we create the best possible images.

Will my photos be kept private?

Yes! Your photos are 100% private. I will never share them on my portfolio, website, or social media without your explicit permission.

Your images are for you and only you, unless you decide otherwise. If you’re happy to let me showcase your photos, that’s amazing - but there’s absolutely no pressure. Your privacy and comfort come first.

Do you offer collaborations and TFP (Time for Print) shoots?

I do occasionally offer TFP shoots, but these are limited and only for projects that benefit both of our portfolios and social media presence.

I’m more likely to consider TFP if:

✔ The concept aligns with my creative vision.

✔ It brings something fresh to my portfolio.

✔ You have a large, engaged following that makes the collaboration mutually beneficial.

If you’re interested, reach out with your ideas, references, and why you think we’d be a great fit. If it’s something exciting and aligns with my work, I’ll consider it! Otherwise, all standard shoots are paid sessions.

Can I share my images online?

Yes - the images are yours to enjoy and you’re welcome to share them on social media or personal platforms if you’d like.

All I ask is that the images aren’t altered with heavy filters or edits, as this can misrepresent the work. If you do share them, tagging Laid Bare Productions or inviting me as a collaborator is always appreciated, as it helps others discover my work.

Of course, sharing is entirely your choice. Many clients prefer to keep their images completely private, and your privacy and comfort will always be respected.

Can I edit or retouch my images after I receive them?

No - editing or altering my work goes against my policy. Each image is carefully edited to match my unique style, and any further adjustments can affect the overall quality and artistic integrity of the photos.

If you’d like any changes, just ask! I’m happy to make reasonable adjustments where possible. That’s why it’s important to be sure of my editing style before booking, so you know what to expect.
